Ancient Trimbakeshwar temple is located in the Nashik district, Maharashtra. Trimbakeshwar temple has so much importance in Hinduism. Because In India Lord Mahadev is the most worshiped deity and Lord Mahadev is the supreme god known as a Devoke Dev Mahadev. Lord Mahadev is the creator of this world and also the destroyer. It is believed and also said that in ancient Purana’s Jyotirlinga are built at the place where Lord Shiva originated. In India, there are 12 such places where Lord Shiva appeared and one of them is Trimbakeshwar temple. But, Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga has some extraordinary features. Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga has three thumb-size linga. The three linga represent Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Mahesh. And the holy Ganga river is seen anointing them. There is a big story behind the origination of the holy Ganga river. In Nashik city, the Ganga river is known as the Godavari.

In ancient times, Trimbak is a living place for Gautam Rishi. And Gautam Rishi performed Penance on Brahamagiri hills to please Lord Shiva. He wants to please Lord Shiva to rid him of the sin of cow slaughter that has befallen him and sought the boon of Lord Shiva to descend in the Ganga river. That is why the river Ganga originated at Brahmagiri Hills.

Kushawart Kund is the second place where Godavari originated after disappearing from Brahmagiri hills. After Godavari mata’s origination at Trimark Lord Shiva accepted to sit in Trimbakeshwar temple in the form of Jyotirlinga. Because of the three faces of Shivlinga “Trinities” this temple is known as a Trimbakeshwar.
